The full range of trades we cover sits on our Deagon home page. Read on for what each room's plumbing includes, the shut-offs worth knowing, and the rules on who may do the work.

What Kitchen and Laundry Plumbing Covers
The plumbing in these two rooms is the supply lines in, the waste lines out, a trap at each fixture, and every point an appliance connects to.
Under a bench, the hot and cold lines each pass a small valve before reaching the tap. The waste runs from the basket waste, past the trap, into the drain line. Each trap keeps a water seal in its bend, which blocks sewer gas from rising back into the room.
In the laundry, the work covers the tub or trough, the taps behind the washing machine, and the drain that empties both. Every fixture in the house meets the one private drain under the yard, which carries it all out to the sewer connection, so sink waste and toilet waste can share a line.
Sinks have a page of their own at kitchen sink installation, and the appliance point is covered under dishwasher installation. A sink that won't drain is one for our blocked drains service.

Valves That Protect Each Appliance
Each appliance in these rooms has its own isolation valve, which shuts the water to one fixture without stopping every other tap in the place. The shut-offs sit here:
Under the sink
a mini-stop on the hot and cold lines feeding the tap.
At the dishwasher
its own isolation valve on the supply line.
Behind the washing machine
the wall taps that fill it.
Back at the meter
the stop tap for the whole property, closed by turning it clockwise.
Before you close the meter's stop tap, check that nothing critical, the hot water system included, depends on that supply while it's off.
Flooding reaches the low streets beside Cabbage Tree Creek, and the shut-offs matter most there. Sewer connections in those streets can push back up into gully traps, the grated fittings that let overflow spill outside, and a laundry tub or floor waste starts filling instead of emptying. Knowing your shut-offs lets you isolate a fixture fast while help is on the way.

Who May Do Kitchen and Laundry Plumbing
Only a licensed plumber may do most of the work in these rooms, because the QBCC keeps just a couple of kitchen and laundry jobs on its unregulated list.
Renewing the washer or jumper valve inside a tap, the spring-loaded part that controls flow, and replacing a domestic water filter's cartridge may be done by anyone with the knowledge and skill for it. The finished work still has to meet the plumbing code.
Repairing or swapping a fixture or fitting counts as minor work, which a QBCC licensee does without a permit or any paperwork to lodge. Everything beyond the unregulated list, from a new mixer to a moved waste point, is for a licensee too.
Deagon Plumbing Services takes on all of it. With housing running from the 1908 villa era through to 1960s brick, plenty of the suburb's tapware is well past its first set of washers.

Moving a Sink or Appliance
Notifiable work is plumbing in a building that already exists which needs no council permit but is recorded with the QBCC on a Form 4 after the plumber wraps up. Kitchen and laundry fit-outs land in that category.
A new sink counts, and relocating a fixture across the room counts as well. We lodge the Form 4 within 10 business days of finishing and hand you a copy for the house records. The QBCC can provide one later if it never reaches you.
Units need a check first. Some apartment renovations require a local government permit, and adding a fixture where several lots share one drain is permit work, so confirm before the job starts.

Questions About Kitchen and Laundry Plumbing
Call (07) 3523 7172What does a kitchen plumber handle in Deagon?
Sinks, taps, wastes and traps, the dishwasher and filter points, and the laundry tub and machine connections are all kitchen plumber work in Deagon. Kitchen sink installation and dishwasher installation each have a page of their own, and a blocked sink belongs with our drain service.
Can my kitchen sink and toilet use the same drain?
Yes, each fixture drains through its own trap into the private drain under the yard, which links every fixture in the building to the sewer connection. A sink and a toilet can both empty into that one drain.
Where do kitchen and laundry leaks usually start?
Most start where two parts meet. The trap and waste joints, the base of the tap, the supply connections behind cabinets and the appliance hoses are the usual spots. The sink, laundry and hose pages carry the detail.
Which taps count towards the water efficiency limit on my rental?
Cold indoor taps above a kitchen sink or a laundry trough count towards the 9 litres a minute limit, mixers included. The taps that fill the machine or the dishwasher sit outside it.
Who looks after the kitchen plumbing in a Deagon unit?
A pipe that serves only your lot, runs inside that lot's boundaries and does not pass through a shared wall, floor or ceiling is yours to maintain. Any pipe supplying more than one lot belongs to the body corporate.
What affects the price of kitchen plumbing work?
Whether the fixtures stay put or move, whether fresh supply or drain points are needed, how reachable the lines are and the fittings you choose. The price is set by a quote once the plumber has seen the job.
