Deagon Plumbing Services covers taps, toilets and cisterns across the suburb, from the weatherboard cottages near the station to the brick homes toward the racecourse. This page sets out which faults are repairs, which are replacements, and what the rules require before an owner or tenant acts.

Repair or Replace a Tap or Toilet
Most drips, endless runs and slow refills are repairs: a washer, a cartridge or a valve inside the fixture has worn out while the fixture itself is still sound. Damage to the body is the line where replacing takes over.
The repair side looks like this:
Washer taps
a drip at the spout usually comes down to a washer swap, or a seat resurface if the brass is scored.
Mixer taps
a drip usually means the ceramic-disc cartridge inside has worn, and a fresh one cures it.
Cisterns
a cistern that runs, leaks or refills slowly most often needs an inlet-valve swap plus a new outlet seal.
A cracked body is different work. Once the crack is in the porcelain of a pan or cistern, or in a tap's brass, the fixture comes out and a new one goes in.
Age pushes the same decision. Bathrooms along Braun Street and Board Street still carry fittings from earlier renovations, and some are past their third set of washers.
A fixture needing a third visit in a few years can cost more to keep patching than to swap. We judge that job by job and show you both options in the quote.

What Tap and Toilet Work Needs a Licence
Only a licensed plumber may do tap and toilet work in Queensland, apart from one very short unregulated list the QBCC publishes. Any handy person may do the unregulated jobs; no licence, permit or report is required, though the finished work still needs to satisfy the plumbing code.
The unregulated list covers:
- the jumper valve and washer inside a tap;
- inside a cistern, the drop-valve and float-valve washers plus the suction-cup rubber.
Everything beyond that list belongs to a licensee. Mending or replacing a fixture fitting is minor work: a QBCC licensee handles it, needing neither a council permit nor a Form 4. Swapping a whole tap is licensed work too, and the QBCC guide names that very job when explaining what sits outside the list.
Installing a new fixture, or moving one, is notifiable work. No council permit applies, and the plumber files a Form 4 to the QBCC within 10 business days of finishing, handing you a copy for your records.
We handle all of it, from the licence-required repairs through to the paperwork on a new suite.

Water Efficiency Rules for Taps and Toilets
The Water Efficiency Labelling and Standards scheme, known as WELS, is the labelling program that grades taps and toilets by stars and by the water each product uses. Every tap, toilet and cistern also needs WaterMark certification, and no licensed plumber may legally install a product without it.
Rentals carry extra limits under Queensland tenancy law. Before an owner can pass the whole water bill to a tenant, the counted outlets are capped at 9 litres per minute. A dual-flush pan is capped at 6.5 litres on a full flush and 3.5 litres on the half.
Only some outlets count toward that limit:
- those above a basin, sink or laundry tub, mixers included;
- bath outlets, outside garden taps and those feeding the washing machine or dishwasher are exempt.
The limits matter more than you'd think here. Census figures put the suburb at 1532 homes, and in plenty of them the rules decide whether a water charge can be lawfully passed on.
New builds have their own floors. A new house, townhouse or sole-occupancy unit needs a dual-flush pan rated 4 stars minimum, with tap fittings and showerheads at 3 stars or better. Those floors don't apply to renovations, so an older bathroom can keep its existing fittings.

Who Pays for Water a Drip Wastes
No, the concealed leak adjustment from Urban Utilities doesn't apply to water wasted by a dripping tap or a running cistern, so that cost stays with the owner.
The scheme covers hidden leaks in buried or buried-in-wall pipework. A visible fixture fault sits outside it, along with water heaters and other appliances.
The waste adds up faster than most people expect. A slow drip can shed thousands of litres over months, all of it passing through your meter and onto your account.
The boundary works the same way with faults. Urban Utilities maintains the street mains and each meter, and every pipe past the meter, right out to the last fixture, belongs to the owner to keep in good condition.
If a cistern near the Depot Road temple or anywhere else starts running after a wet spell, check the meter at a quiet hour. A meter still turning with every outlet closed points to a leak on your side.
The Tap and Toilet Work We Cover
Each fixture job has its own page with the faults and process spelled out:
- Tap repairs: washers, jumpers, cartridges and spindles stripped and replaced.
- Toilet repairs: cistern valves, seals, pan connectors and weak flushes.
- Tap replacement: choosing and fitting new taps where repair stops paying.
- Toilet installation: swapping a whole suite, with the Form 4 lodged for you.
- Why your tap keeps dripping: the causes behind a drip that keeps coming back.
Deeper faults live elsewhere on the site. A blocked pan is a drain job for our blocked drains page, and hot water faults sit with hot water plumbing.

Tap and Toilet Questions From Deagon
Call (07) 3523 7172Which tap and toilet problems can a plumber fix in Deagon?
Drips at the spout, the handle or the base, cisterns that run or refill slowly, weak flushes, and leaking stop taps or connections all fall inside a standard visit. Our tap repairs page covers the washer and cartridge faults, and our toilet repairs page covers the cistern and pan work.
What do WELS stars on a tap or toilet mean?
The stars show how much water a fixture uses. WELS registers each tap, toilet and cistern and prints the rating on the label. WaterMark certification is the companion mark a product needs before a licensed plumber can legally install it.
Are there water flow limits for taps and toilets in a rental?
Yes. Queensland tenancy law caps the counted cold taps and mixers at 9 litres a minute and a dual flush toilet at 6.5 litres on a full flush, 3.5 on the half. Under those caps, an owner can pass on the full water charge.
Does the water utility cover a leaking tap or toilet?
No. The utility's leak relief scheme is reserved for hidden pipe faults, so water wasted by a dripping tap or a running cistern stays on the owner's account. Urban Utilities maintains the street mains and the meter; everything past the meter is the owner's.
Who arranges tap and toilet repairs in a Deagon rental?
Repairs sit with the owner's side of the tenancy: the owner or manager keeps the premises repaired, and the tenant reports faults promptly. A toilet that's blocked or out of action is on Queensland's emergency repairs list, so it can't wait for a routine inspection.
Is the call-out free for a tap or toilet repair?
